Jones' Death Confirmed By War Department The death of Pfc. Wesley D. Jones, former police jury member from Ward Six, was confirmed in a telegram from the War Department received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Jones, of Atlanta last Thursday. The telegram read: "The Secretary of War asks that I assure you of his deep regret in the loss of your son, Private First Class Wesley D. Jones, who was previously missing in action. Report received in the War Department establishes the fact that your son's death occurred on Twenty April in the North African area. Letter follows. Dunlop, Acting Adjutant General." Pfc. Jones served on the police jury two and one-half years before entering service July 20, 1943. He was the youngest member of the governing body of the parish. Besides his parents, he is survived by six brothers, four of whom are in the Armed Forces. It is presumed that Pfc. Jones left the States around April 1st. The last letter received by his parents was dated March 26 and postmarked March 28. His brother, Cpl. Carl Jones stationed in the Aleutians, has written that the last letter he received from his brother was postmarked April 1.
