Mrs. L. Johnston, about 65 years old, died on July 9 at the home of her son in
Sikes as the result of an extended illness.  Funeral services were conducted
at the Thompson Church near Sikes on July 10 with Rev. Jerry and Rev. Dennis
Fordham, Jackson Parish, in charge.  Interment followed in the Thompson
Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnston was the wife of the late Andrew Johnston.  She was a member of
the Methodist Church and also a member of one of Winn Parish's pioneer
families.  She had lived at Sikes all of her life.

Surviving are six sons, Waymon Johnston of Clarks, Royal Johnston of the U. S.
Navy, Wannie Johnston, Floyd Johnston, C. Willard Johnston, and Arthur
Johnston, of Sikes, and one daughter, Mrs. Mae Calhoun.
