W. Campbell Succumbs Here At The Age of 100 John William Campbell, first to own an automobile and to run a taxi service in Winn Parish died Sunday morning, February 26, 1967 at the age of 100. He was born Thursday, October 6, 1866 at Dodson and lived there until he moved to Winnfield around 1915. He operated a liver stable until after the turn of the century and was a deputy sheriff in Winn Parish for several years. When the time signaled the end of his livery stable business, he sold out, bought an auto, and shortly afterwards went into a taxi service at Dodson. Upon moving here, Mr. Campbell opened Winnfield's first service station and garage, and ran it until his retirement in the thirties. He was active and went about the town until a few years ago. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Winnfield, with the Rev. W. R. Gage officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery here. Survivors include a son, W. M. Campbell, Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Breedlove, Winnfield; two brothers, Jim Campbell, Epps, and Adam Campbell, West Monroe. Pallbearers were Morris Wood, Earl Applewhite, Joe Mitchell, Jack Gaar, P. H. Cole, H. E. Powell, Jr., Newton Forrest, and Robert Kraft.
