All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: October 21, 1965 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Former Winn Parish Native Succumbs Oct. 14 Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Bevill Mathis Jones, 79, a longtime resident of Mooringsport, were held at 2 p.m. October 17, in the First Baptist Church of Mooringsport. Officiating at the services was the Rev. R. W. Gordon, pastor of the Caddo Heights Baptist Church of Shreveport. Burial was in Mooringsport Cemetery. Mrs. Jones, who lived in Mooringsport 47 years, died October 14, 1965 after an illness of several months. She was a native of Winn Parish and was born Aug. 17, 1886. She moved to Naborton about 1914 and to Mooringsport in 1918. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mooringsport, was a former president of the Women's Missionary Union at the church, taught a Sunday school class, and worked in the Baptist Girls Auxiliary. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. L. G. Rolater, Centrailia, Ill., Mrs. R. S. Smith, Cotton Valley, and Mrs. C. W. Alexander, Shreveport; a son, Charles H. Mathis, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Butts, Winnfield, and Mrs. Ruby Hamrick, Vivian; a brother, Guy Bevill, Winnfield; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
