S.P. Jones Dies At 73; Rites Held Wednesday

Funeral rites for Seldon P. Jones, 73-year old Winnfield man who died
unexpectedly at his home at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 1967, were held at 2
p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, with burial in
the Old Union Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, a retired director of the
local public welfare office, and a retired public school teacher. He was a
member of the East Winnfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Willie Jones of Lakeside, Calif.; two brothers, John
Jones of Natchitoches and Morris Jones of Bastrop; two sisters, Mrs. Emma
Sawyer of Ferriday and Mrs. Mattie Nethery of Grayson; one stepdaughter, Mrs.
Cecil Couch of Tullos; one stepson, Gilbert Mercer of Shreveport.
