Keen The death in action of Private First Class Bobby Wayne Keen, son of Mrs. Ruth Keen of Winnfield, was confirmed this week in a letter from the War Department. Pfc. Keen was reported missing in action in Korea on July 8, 1953. The letter to his mother, dated March 3, stated that it has been confirmed that he was killed in action on that date. The letter was from Maj. Gen. William E. Bergin, Adjutant General. The Winnfield man reported for overseas duty in May, last year, after having been in service eight months. He was reported missing shortly after the truce was signed in Korea and some hope was held that he was alive as a prisoner of war. However, no trace was found of him in a prisoner of war camp and his death was confirmed. Mrs. Keen told the Enterprise this week that to date no arrangements are know for bringing the remains back here for burial. The youth is survived by his mother, two sisters, Carrie Ruth and Sara Beth, and two brothers, Thomas Michael and John Dennis. The family lives on the Atlanta highway. No. 2 Remains Of Local Man Enroute To U. S. From Japan The remains of Private First Clas Bobby Wayne Keen, son of Mrs. Ruth Keen of Atlanta Highway, are now enroute to the United States from Japan, it was learned this week from Mrs. Keen. Funeral services were to be held at the Laurel Heights Baptist Church, when the remains arrive here, with burial in the Winnfield Cemetery. A military funeral is not planned, it was stated. It was not known when the remains will arrive as yet. Arrangements will be announced as soon as possible. A letter to Mrs. keen this week from Col. John P. Martz, Jr., of the Army Quartermaster Corp stated that the remains of Pfc. Keen were recovered near Sokagoe, Korea, on October 30, 1953. It was apparent that he had been killed by mortar fire, the letter stated. He was reported missing in action in July, 1953, and it was recently confirmed that he was killed in action on that date. No. 3 Funeral Slated For Friday For PFC. Bobby W. Keen The remains of Pfc. Bobby Wayne Keen are to arrive in Winnfield tomorrow, Friday, at 1:56 a.m., for funeral services Sunday at the Laurel Heights Baptist Church. Pfc. Keen was killed in action in Korea July 8, 1953. The body will be at Southern Funeral Home preceding the funeral at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. H. J. Mott and Rev. Waynon Mott. Burial will be in Winnfield Cemetery. Surviving Pfc. Keen are his mother, Mrs. Ruth Keen; grandmother, Mrs. J. C. Snider; two brothers, John Dennis and Thomas Michael; two sisters, Carrie Ruth and Sara Beth, all of Winnfield.
