T. Kelly, 77, Harmony Grove Prominent Winn Parish Farmer Succumbs From Stroke Of Paralysis James Thomas Kelly, ag3 77, succumbed to a stroke of paralysis Wednesday, June 26, at midnight. Paralysis first attacked Mr. Kelly while attending services at Hurricane Grove Church on March 12. Since then he has grown steadily worse until death occurred. He died at the home of his son, J. J. Kelly at Sikes. Interment was made in Harmony Grove Cemetery Thursday afternoon, June 27, at 5 o'clock. Fulfilling a last request of the deceased, Rev. L. Dow Emmons of Sikes had charge of the funeral services. Mr. Kelly and Rev. Emmons were born on the same day and were lifetime friends. Mr. Kelly, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly, was born in Henry County, Georgia, June 20, 1856, moving to Winn Parish in 1859 and spending the remainder of his life here. On January 5, 1875 he was married to Miss Sarah Ann Gates, also a resident of Winn Parish, who preceded him in death in 1912. To this happy union was born 9 children, 8 of whom are living. At an early age, Mr. Kelly joined the Baptist Church and at the time of his death was a devout member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church. He was interested in all religious and civic movements and was loved and respected by all adults and was a friend of all children whom he knew. Mr. Kelly enjoyed perfect health until about a year preceding his death. The deceased is survived by the following children: J. W. Kelly, J. A. Kelly, P. W. Kelly, and Troy Kelly, all of Gaars Mill; J. J. Kelly of Sikes; Mrs. J. A. Sanders, of Columbia; Mrs. H. B. Bishop, Gaars Mill; and Mrs. J. T. Eldridge, Winnsboro. He also leaves forty eight grandchildren, and forty four great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Jackson Gates, and one brother, A. C. Kelly. Many out of town relatives and friends attended the funeral.
