I. Keyes Is Claimed By Death Thursday, April 3 Lifelong Resident of Community Dies After Lingering Illness Following a lingering illness, Mrs. I. J. Keyes, age 47 years, of the Sardis Community passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 3rd, at 5 o'clock. Mrs. Keyes has lived in this community her entire life, was a consecrated Christian, member of the Sardis Baptist Church, a loving companion and a loyal, devoted mother. During her protracted illness, while her suffering was intense, she remained patient and grateful for the kindly ministration of her relatives and may friends who made every effort to alleviate her pain. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. D. Sherwood assisted by Rev. A. H. Cullen and the body was laid to rest Friday afternoon under a blanket of flowers in the Old Sardis Cemetery. Surviving the deceased are her husband and six sons, Ivy, Vester, Eugene, Archie, Roy, and Josh, Jr.; father, J. W. Shelton of Winnfield; seven sisters, Mrs. C. R. Mixon, Mrs. Olive Eagles, and Mrs. Hasson Morris of Winnfield; Mrs. E. B. Barton of Sardis; Mrs. Henry Keyes of Baskin; Mrs. A. B. Hughes of Montgomery; and Mrs. H. L. Preston of East Foxboro, Mass; and two brothers, Riley B. Shelton of Riderwood, Ala., and M. T. Shelton of New Orleans.
