Kidd Held Monday A. M. Dean of Winn Parish Bar Dies Saturday After Long Illness Funeral services for Earl E. Kidd, 69, who died at his home here Saturday night, were held Monday morning at eleven o'clock at the family residence conducted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. The deceased was the dean of the Winn Parish bar, beginning the practice of law here in 1900, immediately after being discharged from army service in the Spanish-American War in which he was commissioned as a lieutenant. He was a member of four law firms, first with J. H. Matthews, later with Julius T. Long, then with his brother-in-law, the late W. M. Wallace, and the last one with Harry Fuller. In 1920 he was elected district attorney when Winn and Jackson formed the judicial district. Mr. Kidd was born at Old Vernon in Jackson Parish, the son of the late Capt. Edwin E. Kidd and Ann Sholars Kidd. His father was one of the leaders of this section who assisted in the restoration of democratic rule in the South and was also a member of the first constitutional convention following the reconstruction period. Many people in Winn and adjoining parishes will mourn the passing of Mr. Kidd, for he was considered a most able lawyer and counselor, and as one of his friends said, "a cultured and honorable gentleman." Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Bertha Wallace Kidd, one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Rau of Houston, Texas, a brother, Thelbert Kidd of Ruston, two sisters, Mrs. H. Vanderheight of New Orleans and Miss Eula Kidd of Ruston, two nephews, Shelby E. Kidd and Prentiss Kidd of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers were Bryant Sholars, G. M. Walsworth, C. F. Walsworth, James Erskins, R. D. Bevill, and Herman Gorham.
