He was born July 12, 1825, in what is now the German Empire but was prior to 1870 a province of France. He was 81 years, 3 months, and 4 days of age at the time of his death. Mr. Kieffer came to this state in 1833 and had lived since that time in the community where he died. Uncle John, as he was known far and near, was a good citizen and a hard working man. He was married twice, the last wife surviving him, also several children, a number of whom are grown. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and while his wives were members of the Methodist and Baptist churches and reared their families in these churches, he remained faithful to his church. The Sentinel extends sincere condolence to the widow and the family of the deceased. "Peace be to his ashes." (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
