C. King Held Sunday Afternoon 34 Year Old Veteran Dies In Monroe Saturday Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. for William Claude King, 34 year old World War II veteran of Winnfield, who died suddenly of a heart attack Saturday morning in Monroe. Rites were conducted at the Gorhamtown Church with Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating, and interment was in the Gorhamtown Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. Pallbearers, all members of the Payne-Johnson Post No. 3800, Veterans of Foreign Wars, were Mayo Faith, Teal Calhoun, Kenneth Egan, A. E. Garriss, Charlie Corley, and Lewis Sholars. A bugler and firing squad from the National Guard rifle company here conducted military rites at the interment. The deceased, an army veteran, was employed in the building trades in Winnfield. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. William King; four sisters, Mrs. Katherine Warren, Miss Ida Rae King, and Mrs. Gladys Smart of Winnfield and Mrs. Louise Edmonds of Atlanta; a brother, Johnny King of Winnfield, and two half brothers; Franklin King and Willard J. King, also of Winnfield.
