L. Kirkland Held Sunday Well Known Winn Parish Citizen Dies Suddenly Daniel L. Kirkland, 71 years, 4 months, and 15 days of age, died suddenly at his home near Sikes, Saturday afternoon, February 6, 1937, as a result of angina pectoris. Last rites for the deceased were held at the Sikes Baptist church Sunday with the Rev. L. D. Emmons in charge. Active pallbearers were D. M. Stovall, Thurman Shell, E. E. Prince, Curtis Prince, Manuel Dickerson, and Mr. Sanders. Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Kirkland was born September 23, 1865 in the Sikes community and lived his entire life there. He was considered one of the more successful farmers and valued citizens. He was a member of the Baptist church and the Masonic Lodge. On September 6, 1894 he was married to Miss Mary Gates of Mineral Springs and they reared a useful family. Surviving the deceased are his wife; four sons and two daughters, D. C. Kirkland, Arnold Kirkland, Fred Kirkland, Lawrence Kirkland, and Mrs. Ethel Blount of Shreveport, and Mrs. Dollie Prince of Gaars Mill. Two brothers also survive, the Rev. Mosey Kirkland of Winnsboro and Charlie Kirkland of Oak Grove.
