Born Jan. 4, 1917 in Winn Parish, La., to G.H. and Betty Boyett Hughes, she was a charter member of the Taylor United Methodist Church, and a member of the Taylor Auxiliary VFW Post 8124. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, William Alvis Kirkpatrick; brothers, Lavelle Hughes, Durwood Hughes, and Jimmy Hughes; sisters, Idelle Hudnall, Avis Horn, and Inez Keith; great-grandson, Zachery Birmingham; and a son-in-law, Loel Dodson. Survivors are her son, W.A. "Dub" Kirkpatrick and wife Jackie of Taylor; two daughters, Mitzi Dodson of Taylor and Ann Birmingham and husband Bob of Hiram, Ga.; a sister, Laura Clary and husband Bob of Orange, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Service was 2 p.m. Sunday at the Taylor United Methodist Church with the Revs. William Guthrie and Todd Pickard officiating. Burial followed at the Welcome Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were her nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
