Sheriff Sanford Jordan said the body was discovered in four feet of water at the end of the highway culvert about 2 p.m. December 21 and that Mr. Kite was last seen alive between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. December 6. He lived alone in a cabin just south of King's Store which is located on the west side of U. S. Highway 71 a mile south of St. Maurice. Authorities said that Mr. Kite customarily took his meals at a Negro residence 200 yards south of his cabin and would walk beside Highway 71 enroute. Residents in the neighborhood became concerned about the man's absence December 20 and the completely submerged body was discovered within minutes after the search party was organized. The cause of death was determined by an autopsy, Jordan said. Graveside services were held at 10:30 Friday, December 22 at the St. Maurice Cemetery and were directed by Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Kite is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Earl Fredieu of New Verda.
