All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 18, 1983 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Mrs. Mattie Ladner Mrs. Ladner, age 83, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, February 6, 1983 at Seventh Ward General Hospital, Hammond, La. Funeral services were conducted by her church pastor, Dr. Pruett, and her former pastor, Dr. Lawrence Clegg. Entombment followed at the Ponchatoula Mausoleum. Survivors include her husband, of Ponchatoula; a daughter, Mrs. Mayo (Jane) Faith of El Paso, Texas; a stepson, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a step grandchild. She had been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula, a very active participant in community and political affairs, and was a secretary of the Housing Authority in Ponchatoula. Mrs. Ladner will be remembered in Winnfield as the sister of the late Albert Smith, Sr., and Houston Smith, also the late Henry Smith of Monroe and the late attorney, James I. Smith, of New Orleans and Ponchatoula. She was a 1918 graduate of Winnfield High School, a former public school teacher, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Winnfield where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in Women's Missionary Union work. She drove a bookmobile for Winn parish Library for many years. She is mourned locally by several of her school classmates, one of whom is also a long time Lafayette Street neighbor, Miss Lowice Teddlie; her sister in law, Mrs. Houston (Ruth) Smith; a great nephew, Douglas H. Allen; a number of cousins and other relatives, and a host of friends.
