Funeral services for Zack R. Lawhon, 70, of Alexandria, were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the family residence in Alexandria. Dr. Glenn Bryant, Alexandria Baptist minister, officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Alexandria under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Lawhon died unexpectedly at 5 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 1971 at his residence. A native of Shreveport, he lived in Shreveport as a youth and later moved to Winnfield. Mr. Lawhon played football at the old Shreveport High School and the University of the South at Swanee (Sewanee?). Later he officiated at games. A member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, he was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Lawhon was the former manager of the Hicks Co. in Winnfield and was associated with Baker-Lawhon Ford in Alexandria. He was the retired president of Lawhon-Baker Wholesale Grocery Co., Inc. Survivors include his widow; a son, Z. R. Lawhon, Jr., of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Marynell L. Smith of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. Grace L. Womack of Alexandria and Mrs. Bess L. Taitt of Chapala, Mex.; a brother, John E. Lawhon of Shreveport; and eight grandchildren.
