M. Cortez Lawley, 76, retired railroad man, passed away at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 1966 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. A native of Bienville Parish, Mr. Lawley spent most of his lifetime in Winnfield. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Everett S. Fick Post, American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Gage and Rev. George Ross officiating. Interment will follow in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Holmes E. Harris, George E. Brewton, Harold Hickey, Alvin Hahn, Morris Lee Wood, Percy Roberts, Sr., J. C. Echols, and W. B. Gimber. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Lawley, Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Newton Forrest, Mrs. Jack Gaar, Winnfield; Mrs. John J. Echols, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. R. D. Sims, Arcadia, Mrs. Janey L. Monzingo, Shreveport; and three grandchildren.
