All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 3, 1943 Winn Parish Enterprise Winn Parish Man Killed Near Coushatta May 27 No charges have been field against Mrs. Eddie Maynard of near Coushatta, who shot her brother in law, Paul Lawrence, with a shotgun when he attempted to enter her home on the night of May 27. Lawrence, an oil field worker, and son of John Lawrence of near Sikes, died from loss of blood while on the way to a Mansfield sanitarium. He was shot between the knee and hip. His wife lost control of the car driving him to the sanitarium and an unidentified driver took Lawrence on to Mansfield. According to Mrs. Lawrence and her mother, Mrs. Sara Onishea, who witnessed the accident, Lawrence had been drinking when he arrived at his sister in law's home, at Al Palgout's place near the Caddo Parish line. He was threatening violence and trying to enter her home when Mrs. Maynard shot him. Funeral services for Lawrence were held near Sikes Saturday. Surviving are his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrence; two brothers and five sisters.
