L. Lewis Held Here October 11th Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Mae Lewis, 76 years, 6 months, and 25 days, who died in a local hospital after an illness of several years, were held at the Hixson Funeral Chapel, Winnfield, Tuesday, October 11, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiated. Fraternal services were in charge of the local Palestine Chapter No. 55, Order of Eastern Star. Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson with the following as pallbearers: J. E. Carter, C. F. Walsworth, Miley Walsworth, R. D. Cantwell, Bryant Sholars, and Henry Harlan. Born in Lake Charles, Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. George H. Wells of that city. She became a resident of Winnfield about 40 years ago and was active in business as well as lodge and civic affairs. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and of the Ruth Lodge No. 16 of Eastern Star of Lake Charles. Her husband, the late R. L. Lewis, prominent merchant of Winnfield, preceded her in death about 15 years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Prentice Bolin, of Preston, Oriente, Cuba; one grandson, Prentice Bolin, Jr., student at L. S. U.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Almquist and Mrs. Julia Fox, of LaPorte, Texas. Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mrs. Arthur Chopin and Prentice Bolen, Jr., of Baton Rouge; Mrs. Roy Sutter, Shreveport; Mrs. Susie B. Davis, Port Arthur, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Brown, Natchitoches; and Miss Mae Beville, Natchitoches.
