All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 29, 1938 Winn Parish Enterprise Estes Lewis Killed, South Part Parish Thrown From One Car And Run Over By Another Estes Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Lewis of Montgomery, was killed in a car accident at Crews Friday night, December 23, three miles above Montgomery in the southern part of Winn Parish. The accident occurred while Gus Lewis, uncle of the accident victim, was driving him home. A second car, driven by J. P. Towery of Shreveport, ran into the rear of Lewis' car throwing Estes Lewis' body into the middle of the highway. Lewis' car went into the left ditch and Towery's car went in the right ditch. A third car, belonging to Jesse Brown of Tioga and driven by H. C. Wroten of Pineville, coming from the rear, struck Lewis' body on the highway, killing him instantly. The dead man was dragged about 40 feet. The men in the cars stopped and offered aid. According to Sheriff Bryant Sholars, Brown and Wroten came to Winnfield this week to confer with District Attorney Harry Fuller on the matter.
