All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 21, 1936 Colfax Chronicle Mrs. Elisha Lewis, Bentley, Called By Death Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lewis, wife of Elisha Lewis, of Bentley, La., aged 78 years, 4 months, and 11 days, died at the family home there on Thursday, Jan. 30, 1936, at 7:30 a.m. Mrs. Lewis was the mother of 17 children, nine of whom survived. She was born in Winn parish on September 19, 1865, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. S. M. Smith. She was married to Elisha H. Lewis in August 1881 and they came to Grant Parish in 1888 and have made it their home ever since. She is survived by her husband, Elisha H. Lewis, two sons, J. H. Lewis and Barney Lewis, ob Bentley, and seven daughters: Mrs. Neva Pruett of Bentley, Mrs. Alice Lovell and Mrs. Linnie Hammonds of Winnfield, Mrs. Edith Wheat of Jonesboro, Mrs. Mattie White of Effs (Epps?), Mrs. Janie Hart of Sterlington, and Miss Angelique Lewis of Washington, D. C. She leave one brother, Spence Smith of Bentley; and three sisters, Mrs. Art Kyson, Mrs. Alice Long, and Mrs. L. C. Lowery, all of Winnfield, La.
