All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 1, 1949 Winn Parish Enterprise Negro Killed In Auto Accident Near Winnfield Phillip Lewis, colored, of Winnfield, died Wednesday night of a broken neck sustained in an automobile wreck on the Winnfield-Clarence highway. The wreck occurred thirteen miles out of Winnfield at about 8:30 o'clock. A colored woman who was riding in the car was injured and hospitalized in Winnfield. Tom Williams, Lewis' stepfather, was also a passenger in the car, but was not injured seriously. Lewis, who was driving the 1941 Chevrolet, lost control of the car, which ran across a ditch and crashed head-on into a high embankment.
