Winnfield Negro Dies In Shooting Scrape In L & A Quarters

Johnny Frank Lewis, youthful Winnfield Negro, was instantly killed and Albert
Smith, Negro ex-convict, was seriously wounded in a gunfight in the L & A
Quarters early Sunday morning, February 15.

It was reported that the fatal shooting occurred when Lewis and his half-
brother, Luther Scott, became involved in a heated scuffle with Smith over a
debt which Lewis claimed Smith owed him.

The Winn Parish Sheriff's Department had filed no charges in the case
Wednesday afternoon.

Smith is reported to be in a critical condition in the Pineville hospital.
