Long Funeral services for Ruby Elizabeth Long were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield. Mrs. Long, age 88 of Winnfield, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 1994 at Winn Parish Medical Center. Mrs. Long was a devoted mother committed to raising her children. She was married 44 years to the late Rubin R. Long. She believed in God, in Christ, in her family and she believed that love was the greatest gift of all. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a native of Joyce. Survivors include seven sons, J. W. Long, C. R. "Cotton" Long, and Bill Long, all of Winnfield, Representative Jimmy Long of Natchitoches, Donald Long of Lafayette, Carroll Long of Longview, Texas, and Gerald Long of Ruston; one brother, Clyde Smith, Sr., and one sister, Clotile Smith, both of Winnfield; 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Rubin R. Long, and one son, Tom Long.
