All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 14, 1951 Winn Parish Enterprise Final Rites Held For Mrs. George Long Wednesday Last rites for Mrs. Virginia Garner "Aunt Jennie" Long, 79, who died in a Winnfield hospital Tuesday, were held at the family home on Maple Street, Wednesday, June 13, 1951, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. P. M. Caraway officiating. Assisting with the services were Dr. W. L. Holcomb and Rev. Alwin Stokes. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons: Kermit A. Gaar, Sr., Kermit A. Gaar, Jr., Frank Richardson, Raymond Bowen, Emerson Walters, and George Mack Scott. Born in Bay Minnette, Alabama, Feb. 7, 1872, Mrs. Long had spent most of her lifetime in Winnfield and Winn Parish. She had been a member of the Methodist Church since early girlhood, and was the widow of the late George P. Long, Sr., prominent businessman of Winnfield, who died in 1928. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Zelma Frazier, Winnfield, Mrs. T. A. Scott, Winnsboro, Mrs. A. J. Corbett, Gilbert, and Mrs. Perry Norman, Dallas; four sons, G. P. Long, Jr., Winnfield, Charles Long, Baton Rouge; one brother, Rich L. Garner, Crowville, La. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.
