All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 16, 1968 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Winn Native Dies In Auto-Bus Collision Mrs. Melvin Gene Lofton of Urania was killed instantly when her automobile struck a Continental Trailways bus about two miles south of Tullos at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 1968. According to reports, Mrs. Lofton was returning to her home from Jena when she lost control of her late model automobile about two miles north of Tullos on U. S. Highway 165 and collided with the bus. By the time the two vehicles came to a stop several hundred feet from the scene of the accident, the car was crushed beneath the bus. Mrs. Lofton was a native of Winnfield Parish and a 1956 graduate of Winnfield High School. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Urania Pentecostal Church with Revs. A. B. Conner and David Mayo officiating. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery near Olla. Mrs. Lofton is survived by her husband and two sons, Richard Dale Lofton and Joey Gale Lofton, all of Urania; four brothers, Lewis Keiffer, Leon Keiffer, and Charles Keiffer, all of Winnfield, and Herschel Keiffer of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Opheila Smith and Mrs. Bessie Hosner, both of Winnfield; and her mother, Mrs. Beulah Leeper of Winnfield.
