Long Pioneer Citizen of Parish Dies Nov. 29 the life of one of Winnfield's oldest and most prominent citizens ended Thursday night, November 29th, at 7 o'clock when William Edward Long passed to his reward, following a long illness of heart trouble and other complications. Mr. Long was 78 years of age, having been born April 14th, 1850 in Smith County, Mississippi. He was one of 12 children of the marriage of John M. Long and Mary Elizabeth Wingate. In 1859 his parents moved to Winn Parish and here he resided until his death and was identified with all progressive and upbuilding movements of the parish. October 1st, 1869 the marriage of Mr. Long and Miss Fannie Woodruff was solemnized and nine children of this marriage survive the deceased. Mr. Long united with the Corinth Baptist Church in 1872 and later moved his membership to the First Baptist Church of Winnfield of which he was a loyal member, living a consecrated and influential Christian life. Fraternally he was affiliated with the Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 of Winnfield. For 12 years Mr. Long served the people of the parish as school board member and was president of that body for the last eight years of that term. So far as is known he never had an enemy, but his generous, courteous and cheerful disposition made friendships by the hundreds. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. A. H. Cullen. Interment was made in the Winnfield cemetery with the Masons in charge. Surviving the deceased are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Lula Tannehill, Mrs. Mollie Bell, and Mrs. L. F. Morrison of Winnfield, and Mrs. J. T. King of Brady, Texas; five sons, Rufus H. Long of Winnfield, Wade H. and W. E. Long, Jr., of Trees, La., Dr. Arthur Long and J. W. Long of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Huey P. Long, Sr., and Albert J. Long of Winnfield; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Wright, Mrs. Olive Wright, Mrs. Joan Eagles, of Winnfield and Mrs. Julia Nugent of Minden, thirty grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
