J. Long Held Sunday Funeral services for William J. Long, of Dry Prong who died in the Baptist Hospital, Alexandria, on Friday, August 6, were held Sunday afternoon at the Zion Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers' Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Mr. Long's nephews: John Long, Parker Long, Jim Long, Jimmy Wright, and Hugh Mercer. Honorary pallbearers were: Albert Guion, Beauford Guion, W. M. Tulley, T. M. Bradford, G. L. Barrett, Silas Morris, W. B. Puckett, W. T. White, and Tom Hodges. Mr. Long, who was 92 years old at the time ofhis death, was born at Louin, Jasper county, Mississippi, on July 11, 1851. He was the son of the late Lucretia Russian and Charles Whatley Long. The deceased came to Winn Parish in the winter of 1871, where he met and married Miss Lucy Wright, who survives him. He built the Zion church fifty- five years ago. Surviving Mr. Long, besides his wife, are four sons, C. C. , O. A., and F. W. (illegible, could be P. W.) of Georgetown, and O. H. Long of Alexandria; and one daughter, Mrs. C. A. White of Lee Heights, La. He also leaves nine grandchildren: Lavelle Long, Mrs. Athlea Horn, Mary Alice Long, William Long, Bobbie Lee Long, Mrs. Dessie Henderson, Charles Otto White, Mrs. Willie Dee Smith, and C. R. Long. Great-grandchildren who survive the deceased are: Jo Frances Horn, Connie Bob Horn, James Lavell Horn, Charles Otto White, Jr., Gerald White Creed, Mary Arden Henderson, Dottie Lee Smith, and Don Q. Smith, Jr.
