Albert J. Long, Jr., 45, who died Friday in an army hospital at Temple, Texas, was buried here Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the home of his brother, W. Otho Long, by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the local Presbyterian church, and interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Kenneth Watts, Shirley Jackson, Gordon Dickerson, Burton Williams, Clyde DeLoach, and Howard Porter. In World War I the deceased was too young to be drafted but he volunteered and served for nearly two years, about half of his service being overseas. Last year before the draft age was lowered from 45 to 38 years, he was inducted into the army again. During the winter while at Camp Swift, Texas, he had the flu and developed an infected throat that ultimately brought on the dreaded disease of leucocythemia from which he died. >From the time of his discharge from the army in World War I, until inducted into the army last year, he made his home in Shreveport where he was an interior decorator and active in musical circles. Surviving are a son, Ensign Albert J. Long III, U. S. Navy Air forces; three brothers, Murphy and Otho Long of Winnfield, and Bryant C. Long of Baton Rouge; and a sister, Miss Edith Ann Long of Winnfield, besides many other near relatives. He was a first cousin of former Governors Huey P. and Earl K. Long.
