Long, Sr., 84, of Winnfield were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in Winnfield City Cemetery. Mr. Long died Saturday, January 28, in Rapides General Hospital after a long illness. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charles Long, Sr., of Winnfield; a son, Charles E. Long, Jr., of Houston; two stepsons, Floyd Long of New Orleans and U. S. Rep. Gillis Long of Alexandria; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Doris Fletcher of Alexandria; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Miller of Joyce; and three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Spencer were hosts Monday for lunch at their home on Park Street to a group of relatives attending the funeral. Included were Mrs. Charles E. (Byrd) Long, Sr., of Alexandria, Representative Gillis Long of Washington, D. C., Jackie Day, Col. (Ret.) Floyd Long of New Orleans, Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Porter of Vidalia and Mrs. Emery (Flodell) Watson of Tullos, Gerald Bolton and Donald Ray Bolton of Atlanta, and Mrs. Walter Miller and Hilton Bolton. Other out of town relatives attending the funeral Monday included his son and grandson and his wife, Charles E. Long, of Humble, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Long III of Dallas, Texas.
