Long Sr., Dies 3:45 Thursday Afternoon Funeral Services Will Be Conducted at First Baptist Church Friday at 3:30 PM Huey P. Long, Sr., who had been seriously ill at his home here for more than a week, with his sons and daughters and other relatives at his bedside, succumbed Thursday afternoon at 3:45. The body will lie in state at the First Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., the time of the funeral Friday afternoon, Dr. B. C. Land, pastor of the church, will be in charge of the services. Assisting him will be the Rev. L. D. Posey of Jena, former pastor of the local church, Rev. G. A. Morgan, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Long was born in Mississippi in 1852 and moved to Louisiana with his parents in 1859. The family settled in the Corinth Community near here. In 1877, Mr. Long united with Corinth Baptist Church. He moved his membership to the Winnfield Baptist Church in December 1886. He was married to Miss Caledonia Tyson of this parish and they reared a large and prominent family. Mrs. Long succumbed in 1913. Mr. Long was one of Winn Parish's most successful farmers and stock raisers. He resided in a comfortable home on the edge of town and although feeble on account of his age, continued to manage a small farm and look after his stock holdings. Active In Politics Huey P. Long, Sr. was very active in politics. He enjoyed the keen rivalry between the opposing factions and took a prominent part in all campaigns. Following the death of his illustrious son, the late United States Senator Huey P. Long, he ran for State Central Committeeman from this district and was elected to that position in the past state campaign. In the same election, his son, Earl K. Long, was elected governor of Louisiana. Surviving are three sons and five daughters, all prominently known: Mrs. Lottie Davis, widow of the late R. W. Davis of Ruston; Julius T. Long, well- known Shreveport attorney; Mrs. Olive Cooper, teacher in the Louisiana State Normal College, Natchitoches; Mrs. Clara Knott, of Many; Lieutenant Governor Earl K. Long of Baton Rouge; Miss Caledonia Long of Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Stewart Hunt of Ruston; and Dr. Shan Long of Oklahoma. He is also survived by one brother and four sisters: Albert Long, Mrs. S. A. Wright, Mrs. R. B. Wright, and Mrs. Joan Eagles, of Winnfield; and Mrs. Julia Nugent of Alexandria. Two brothers and one sister preceded im in death. They were George P. Long and W. E. Long of Winnfield and Mrs. Sophronia Brown of New Orleans.
