W. Long Funeral services for James W. (J. W.) Long, 70, of Winnfield, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home with the Rev. Kelly Tingle and Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery near Winnfield. Mr. Long passed away on Saturday, October 28, 1995, in Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport. He was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Calvin Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and had served in both World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Janice Long of Winnfield; three sons, John Wayne Long and Paul Anthony Long of Jena, and Hugh Eugene Long of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; a daughter, Ruby Janice Norton of Pensacola, Florida; two stepsons, Phil Hemphill of Winnfield and Pat Hemphill of West Monroe; a stepdaughter, Becky Brazzell of Winnfield; six brothers, C. R. "Cotton" Long of Winnfield, Jimmy D. Long of Natchitoches, Donald Long of Lafayette, Bill Long of Shreveport, Gerald Long of Ruston, Carroll Long of Longview, Texas; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and eight step grandchildren. Pallbearers were Phil Hemphill, Pat Hemphill, Kevin Long, Roger Long, Jimmy Long, Jr., Richard Long, Scott Long, Ronnie Brazzell, and honorary pallbearers were Thomas L. Long and Steve Long.
