All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Last Rites For Thomas Long, 88, Held On Sunday (From the December 9, 1948 Winn Parish Enterprise) Last rites for Thomas Jefferson Long, 88 year old native of Winn Parish, were held Sunday afternoon, November 7, at the Corinth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Burial was in the Corinth Cemetery. Mr. Long, life long resident of Winn, passed away at his home in the Tannehill Community Saturday, November 6, after an illness of several months. He was one of Winn's oldest natives and was well-known throughout the parish. He was born in the Corinth Community on March 3, 1860. For many years he had made his home in the Tannehill Community, where he farmed and raised livestock. Mr. Long was a member of the Tannehill Baptist Church and had always taken an active part in civic affairs of his community. A quartet of the Winnfield Baptist Church, accompanied by Elmo Mercer at the piano, rendered musical selections at the final rites Sunday afternoon. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Maude Bailey Long of Tannehill; three sons, Floyd of Winnfield, and Lonnie and Rueben Ray Long of Tannehill; three daughters, Mrs. Arville Carter of Tannehill, Mrs. Alva Bowen of Kilgore, and Mrs. Maude Bowen of Kilgore; 24 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Pallbearers who were grandsons of Mr. Long, were" George Bailey, Lloyd Key, Gillis Long, Frank Fletcher, Colvin Ray Long, and Robbie Barron.
