Tuff Long Killed; J. C. Wright Held James A. "Tuff" Long, about 38, Ward 2 oil field worker, was shot and killed this afternoon in the home of J. C. Wright, who lives near Colgrade, Winn Sheriff R. S. Jordan said. Wright has been arrested and placed in the Winn Parish jail pending an investigation. A shotgun was used in the killing. No. 2 No Trial Date Set Murder Charge Filed In Shooting Death Here A murder charge has been filed here against J. C. Wright, 37, in the shotgun death of James A. "Tuff" Long, 34. Wright is in the parish jail. No bond is set on murder cases. Sheriff Sanford Jordan says investigation of the case continues. The sheriff said Wright had admitted shooting Long last Thursday shortly before noon in Wright's home. Both men lived near each other in Colgrade community and frequently worked together in the oil fields. Jordan said that according to Wright's statement, Long stopped at Wright's house a few minutes before the shooting. Wright said his wife had been gone from home several days and he sought to learn from Long of her whereabouts. It was during this discussion that Wright said he fired the fatal shot, the sheriff disclosed. The case could be expected to come before the fall term of the grand jury meeting the first Monday of September. FUNERAL Services for Long were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Christie and Rev. Alson Jeter officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Long was a lifelong resident of the Winnfield area and was an independent oil operator. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Alean Long, two sons, James A., Jr., and Lorn Alan Long; four sisters, Mrs. Cornelia Pray, Scarlet Sue Long, Winnfield; Mary Long, Ft. Worth, Texas, Mrs. Priscilla Pullig, Bay Minnette, Alabama; a brother, Willie O. "Sonny Boy" Long, Winnfield; his father, Oscar C. Long, Winnfield; five nieces, three nephews, and two great nephews. Serving as pallbearers were Congressman Speedy O. Long, W. F. Long, Baton Rouge, Felix Long, Tullos, Martin Ray Bozeman, Winnfield, Johnny O'Neal, Houston, William Gilmore, Alexandria, Gene Porter, Winnfield, Victor Brinkley, Winnfield.
