Lowe Services for Hershel R. Lowe were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 1990, in the Calvin Baptist Church where he had been a member since early adulthood. The Reverends Herbert Whitten, Donnie Wise, and Carter Hall officiated. Burial was in the Bolton-Teagle Cemetery. Mr. Lowe owned and operated Lowe's Grocery in Calvin for 33 years. After retiring from his business he was elected police juror in 1964 and served three consecutive terms. He was selected to represent the Winn Parish Police Jury on the Kisatchie Delta Economic Development District Council, Inc. Mr. Lowe was a respected cattleman and timber farmer. He was sponsored and attended the Farmers and Bankers Tour of the Mid West in 1968. In August, 1982, Mr. Lowe was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for Winnfield General Hospital. He was a member of Calvin Masonic Lodge. Mr. Lowe was born on October 23, 1907, the son of George W. Lowe and Hattie Milam Lowe. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carpenter Lowe, a son, Milam Ray Lowe, of Calvin, three daughters, Mary Ann Wood of Baton Rouge, Martha Faye Killian of Florien, and Melinda Ruth Garrett of Calvin; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, G. W. Lowe of Memphis, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Pearl Lowe Mathews, two grandchildren, Angela Wood and Paige Garrett LaCroix. Pallbearers were Jerry Anderson, Lamar Carpenter, Lanis Carpenter, Roy Griffin, Dickie Heard, and Tiny Martin. Honorary pallbearers were John Anderson, Luther Keaton, Matt Milam, Jr., Newton Martin, Harper Terrill, and Howard Wilson.
