P. Lucas, Dodson, Dies At His Home On December 12th Dodson Postmaster for 29 Years is a Victim of Influenza J. P. Lucas, 66, prominent citizen of Dodson, died Monday night at 10:00 o'clock at his home, following a short attack of influenza. He was apparently improving when complications arose Saturday and he rapidly grew worse until death resulted. Mr. Lucas, well beloved by all the people of his community, had been postmaster, he taught for anumber of years in the schools of Winn Parish. Mr. Lucas was a charter member of the Dodson Lodge, F. & A. M., serving as Master for a great many years. He was also a member of the Shreveport Consistory, thirty-second degree Mason, and the El Karubah Temple Shrine. He served as clerk of the Dodson W. O. W. and was a member of the Eastern Star. He served on the school board for a great many years and at the time of his death was a local trustee. He was a devout member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at the Mineral Springs Church near Dodson at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Masonic order in charge. Rev. Alwin Stokes of the Winnfield Presbyterian church, officiating minister, paid a glowing tribute to the life and work of Mr. Lucas in his talk, both as a minister and as a fellow Mason. Interment was in the Mineral Springs Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Walter Daily, L. J. Stovall, Bud Temple, D. W. White, J. H. Barr, and C. H. Roberson. Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, who was Rebecca Jane Gates before marriage, and four children. They are Carrus Lucas, Pineville; Mrs. Henry Stinson, Winnfield; Mrs. Walter Daily, Pineville; and Mrs. Sydney Crain, Sikes. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
