R. Luther, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Luther of the Wheeling Community, who was killed in an automobile head-on collision late Wednesday nine miles south of Lufkin, Texas, will be held at Couley some time Friday, depending upon arrival of the remains. According to reports the collision occurred when two cars crashed head-on as both topped a light incline on the highway. An eight month old child, Elizabeth Thigpen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Thigpen, who reside, who reside near the Louisiana Oil Refinery on the Minden Highway, also lost her life in the wreck, in which four others were injured. Although little information could be obtained from the occupants of the car, it was reported that apparently both cars were being driven close to the center of the highway to eliminate the possibility of slipping off the shoulder, and that rain obscured the vision of both drivers. The infant died within an hour after the crash. Luther died in the hospital at 7:45 p.m. Charles Starks and Harry Neal, both of Wheeling were also reported badly bruised and cut but attendants at the hospital said that they had no bones broken. Neal is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Neal of Wheeling and a nephew of Mrs. Frank Shaw and Mrs. U. McGinty of Winnfield. Luther is survived by his parents, one sister and five brothers.
