Zion Funeral services were held February 4 for Thomas J. Lyons, 38, who was burned fatally when fire destroyed a two room house in Montgomery early Sunday. Last rites were at Mt. Zion, Winn Parish, with burial in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Montgomery volunteer fireman were called to the blaze at 3:30 a.m. but the flames were too far advanced for the fireman to save Lyons or the house in which he lived alone. Cause of the fire was undetermined. Town Marshal R. N. Downs, who led fireman in pulling Lyons form the blazing house, said this was the fourth house occupied by Lyons to be burned down. One of the other fires was in Montgomery and the two other blazes were in nearby towns, Downs reported. The house which burned Sunday was owned by Wilbur Hickman of Montgomery. Lyons is survived by three sons, Wayne Lyons, Port Arthur, Texas, and Charles and J. E. Lyons, both of Houston; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Appleton of Port Arthur, and Mrs. Fay Doukas and Mrs. Leggie Moore of New York City; a brother, Henry Lyons of Arkansas; a sister, Mrs. Annie Duffy, Montgomery, and six grandchildren.
