Zion Nov. 3 Death came to Mrs. Lula Luther Mitchell, wife of Ed Mitchell of the Wheeling Community, Winn Parish, early Wednesday, November 2, 1960, in the Baptist Hospital, Alexandria, after a long illness. She was 78 years of age. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Grant Parish August 5, 1882, the daughter of James Madison Luther and Corrine Waddell Luther. She spent much of her early childhood at Couley, and resided all of her married life in Winn Parish. She was a Methodist, having been for many years a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church, located on the Winnfield-Montgomery highway, near Montgomery. Among the immediate survivors are Mrs. Mitchell's husband, Ed Mitchell of Rt. 1, Montgomery; six children, Mrs. Linnie Mae Shelton Winnfield; Dr. Guy C. Mithcell, Clinton, Miss.; Mrs. Leckie Jennings, Coushatta; Mrs. Lottie McLaren, Springhill; Dr. John H. Mitchell, Lafayette; and Roy D. Mitchell, Shreveport. Other survivors are three brothers, Arthur Luther of Ruston, R. Lee Luther of Winnfield, and John H. Luther of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Monroe Shelton of Winnfield and Mrs. Eunice Martin of Calvin; nine children and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 3, at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church with Hixson Funeral Home of Winnfield in charge. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers were Judge R. D. Cantwell, Cheston Stevens, Henry A. Keiffer, Robert Lee Dunn, E. G. Ferguson, and J. C. Cardozier.
