E. Machen, 76, Dies At His Home Wednesday Night H. E. Machen, 76, retired contractor and farmer, succumbed at his home here Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. after an illness of about five months. His health began to fail when his wife passed away last November 8. Funeral services were incomplete Thursday afternoon but were expected to be held sometime Friday at the First Baptist Church if all members of the family arrived. The Rev. Eugene Langford, pastor of the Laurel Heights Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Machen was a member of the First Baptist church and of the local Masonic Lodge. A successful contractor and farmer, he had retired several months ago because of illness. He served as a member of the Town Council of Winnfield four years prior to the present term. Mr. Machen was a member of one of Winn Parish's oldest family. Surviving are three sons, Otis Machen, Winnfield; W. H. of Jonesboro, and M. F. of Midland, Texas; six daughters, Mrs. Zelma Kiely and Mrs. Clotile Hurd, Winnfield; Mrs. Mamie Schimpf of Las Cruse, NM; Mrs. Brazzie Maddox of Valdosta, Ga.; Mrs. Syble Robinnette of Andrews, Texas; Mrs. Juanita Pearson of Germany; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Hershel and Pierce of Winnfield, Morris of Sondheimer, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Ada (J. E. Frazier), Winnfield, and Mrs. Alma Robinson of Tallulah.
