M. Machen, Sr., Former Resident, Dies In Bossier Funeral services for Hershel Mack Machen, Sr., 68, of Bossier City, a retired employee of the State Highway Department, were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Tharpe, pastor of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. C. C. Martin of Winnfield. Burial was in the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bossier Parish. Mr. Machen died Thursday, February 27, 1969 in Bossier City General Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Machen, a native of Louisiana, was a resident of Winnfield for many years before moving to Bossier City, where he had lived for three years. He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; four sons, William A. Machen, D. C. Machen, both of Bossier City; Hershel M. Machen, Jr., and James R. Machen, both of Winnfield; four daughters, Mrs. Mabel Ellis of Hosston, Mrs. Maudine Bolton of Shreveport, Mrs. Eva Pope and Mrs. Bobbie Weeks, both of Bossier City; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Frazier of Winnfield and Mrs. Alma Robertson of Tallulah, and 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
