A. Madden Held Wednesday Funeral services for Mrs. J. A. Madden, 54, resident of Winnfield for the past 27 years, were held at the Winnfield First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, with the Rev. H. H. McBride officiating. Burial was in the Minden Cemetery at 2 p.m. under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Madden, who was born in Red River Parish on April 2, 1894, died suddenly at her home on Center Street in Winnfield at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 25. It is believed she suffered a heart attack. The remains lay in state at the Hixson Funeral Home and Eastern Star services were conducted at the home at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Madden moved to Winnfield about 1920 and since that time he has been employed by the Tremont and Gulf Railway Company here. Mrs. Madden was born and reared in Red River Parish. She was a member of the local Eastern Star organization, the Woodmen of the World ladies' circle, and of the Winnfield First Baptist Church. For many years she had taken an active part in church and civic work of the community. Surviving are her husband, J. A. Madden of Winnfield; her mother, Mrs. J. V. Hughes, of Winnfield; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Murphy of Liberty, Texas; Mrs. Nellie Loker of Alexandria; Mrs. Evelyn Prescott of Winnfield, and Mrs. Ethelin Greer of Jonesboro; and three brothers, Joe and Sam Massey of Winnfield, and Robert Massey of Hall Summit. Pallbearers were Jesse L. Corley, S. G. McDaniel, J. E. Gassiot, Ovey Trahan, Albert Smith, Sr., and E. C. Frazier.
