All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 9, 1985 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Services Held For Elaine Porter Martin Burial services for Mrs. Elaine Porter Martin, age 58, were held Monday, January 14, 1985, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, Louisiana, with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating, assisted by Bro. Eugene F. Love, and Rev. Fisk M. Ray. Interment was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield. Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Howard A. "Dick" Porter and Ila Garriss Porter and a lifelong resident of Winnfield, La. She was preceded in death by a son, William R. "Billy" Martin, and a brother, Gene W. Porter. Mrs. Martin succumbed Friday, January 11, 1985, in Schumpert Medical Center of Shreveport, La., following a lengthy illness. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Allen Porter of Natchitoches, Louisiana and Gerald Porter Martin, husband of Kathryn Parker Martin of Alexandria, Louisiana; one brother, Howard Allen Porter, Jr., of Gray, Louisiana; and two granddaughters, Kathryn Noel and Sara Holley Martin; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, Louisiana. She was currently Supervisor of Special Education of the Winn Parish School System, having begun her career as a teacher of exceptional children in 1960. Mrs. Martin was a member of Louisiana Association of School Executives, Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Sorority, CenLa Supervisors, American Association of Retired Persons, The Council for Exceptional Children, and Winn Organization for Reading Development. Serving as pallbearers were nephews Robert Bassford, Doug Boyd, Jimmy Dolden, Gene Williams Porter, Jr., Howard Allen Porter, Jr., Stacy David Porter, and Stuart Garriss Porter. Honorary pallbearers included Etoy Ashley, T. J. Bankston, Charles L. Bates, James F. Bennett, Ronald D. Canerday, Joe Dosher, E. H. Farr, Donald W. Garrett, Gerald Huckaby, Benny Smith, R. L. Terry, and Marvin Wyatt. The family requests that memorials be sent to Louisiana Special Olympics.
