The body is being sent to Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield where arrangements were incomplete Wednesday morning. Martin had been in the service 29 years and was stationed in Orlando, where he was assigned to shore patrol at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nelwyn Brister Martin, a sister, two daughters, and a son. No. 2 Full Military Rites Held For Elmer Martin, Jr. U. S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Elmer Martin, Jr., a 48 year old native of Winn Parish, died at his home in Winter Park, Florida, Tuesday, December 9, 1969, after a brief illness. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, had a total of 29 years in the service and was buried with full military honors. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elmer Martin, Jr., of Winter Park, Fla.; two daughters, Navy Dental Technician Deborah Martin of Orlando, Fla., and Karen Martin of Winter Park, Fla.; a son, Pvt. Nicholas Martin of Ft. Rucker, Ala.; his father, Elmer Martin, Sr., of Baker, La.; and a sister, Mrs. Lena Mayes of Baker. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Hurricane Grove Baptist Church near Sikes with Rev. Glenn Pippens and Rev. Lewis Sullivan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers were U. S. Navy petty officers from the reserve center in Alexandria. Lt. Commander James Lomax was in charge of the graveside military services.
