Martin At Couley Sunday Joe Martin, 68 years and 9 months of age, died at 11 a.m. Saturday at his home on Route 3, Winnfield. Funeral services were held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Couley Methodist Church and the Double Churches. Burial was in the Couley Cemetery with Rev. C. M. Robinson in charge. Congressman A. Leonard Allen spoke at the final service. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. Mr. Martin was born and reared one mile from his home at the time of his death. He was a farmer and also drove the school bus from his community for several years. For a number of years he was connected with the American Turpentine and Tar Co. He was a member of the Couley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Lt. Col. Hershel Martin, on leave from Japan, and Francis Martin of Route 3, Winnfield; a daughter, Mrs. Edmond Kelley, of Route 3, Winnfield; three brothers, Pierce Martin, Route 3, Winnfield, Hardy Martin of Calvin, and Alvin Martin of New Jersey; three sisters, Mrs. Nichols of Dry Prong, Mrs. Lettie Kieffer of Montgomery, and Mrs. Sally Jackson of Hargis, La.
