H. Martin Succumbs After Brief Illness Mrs. Bettie Martin, 89, native of Winn Parish, died in a Winnfield hospital July 12 following a short illness. Mrs. martin was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jackson, pioneer residents of Winn Parish. Prior to her marriage to J. H. Martin September 20, 1899, she was a Winn Parish school teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, W. M. U., and Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 55 of Winnfield. Last rites were conducted at the First Baptist Church, July 13, at 4 p.m. with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, of Pineville, officiating. Burial was in Sanders Cemetery near Calvin. Acting as pallbearers were Frank Martin, John Martin, Bobby Joe Martin, Rev. Charles Martin, James Martin, and Stanley Martin, all grandsons, and Goodridge Kirkland and Vernon Nugent. Survivors include four sons, Cecil of Calvin, Oswald , Dalton, and Alton, of Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. Ella Drummond, of Hodge; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
