Martin Whose death occurred last Friday, Funeral Service Saturday. C.M.C. MARTIN, LONG PROMINENT IN PARISH, DIES Former President Parish Police Jury Buried Near Calvin Saturday Funeral services for C.M.C. Martin who died Thursday, April 3rd, [1930] were held at the Bethlehem cemetery near Calvin Saturday morning and were attended by hosts of friends of the deceased, who has been for many years one of the most useful and outstanding citizens of this parish. Mr. Martin was born in Winn Parish November 21, 1866 and resided here all his life until recently when he moved to Natchitoches where his death occurred. For many years Mr. Martin was engaged in the mercantile business in Calvin, later had charge of a sawmill business and at the time of his death was employed by the State Highway Commission as Assistant District Superintendent. As president of the Winn Parish Police Jury, which office he held four years while Police Juror from Ward 8, Mr. Martin rendered invaluable service to the parish and won the esteem and respect of his fellow citizens by his faithfulness and loyalty. He was a devout member of the Calvin Baptist Church and largely responsible for the organization of that body of Christians. Fraternally he was affiliated with Calvin Lodge No. 347 F.& A.M. having helped to constitute that lodge, serving as the Worshipful Master for ten consecutive years. In January 1893 Mr. Martin married Miss Effie Thompson whose death occurred in 1897. To this union was born one child. In July 1903 the marriage of Mr. Martin and Miss Elizabeth Jones was solemnized and to them four children were born. Mr. Martin continued active in all worthy public affairs until stricken by his fatal illness and it was with great regret the citizens of Winn Parish learned of his death. Calvin Lodge No. 347 F.& A.M. had charge of the funeral services at the grave and the ceremonies were concluded by remarks by the Rev. C. B. Claunch, former pastor of the deceased, and the Rev. A.H. Cullen. The deceased is survived by his widow and five children, Mrs. G.B. Chandler, John Newton, Minnie and C.M.C. Jr., and one sister, Mrs. Sallie Guthrie of Calvin.
