H. Martin At Sanders Chapel James Henry martin, 86, native of Lincoln Parish, died at a Winnfield hospital at 2:30 a.m. May 11, 1962, following a short illness. He had lived most of his life in Winnfield. Mr. Martin was widely known, having been employed for many years in the Winnfield mercantile establishments before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Brotherhood Singing Group that had gained popularity through the parish and district at religious gatherings. Once a large group, only four members remain with the death of Mr. Martin. Mr. Martin was married to Miss Betty Jackson, a school teacher at Gansville, on September 20, 1899. The ceremony took place in the Sanders Chapel Baptist Church. He and his wife resided in Calvin for many years before moving to Winnfield. Last rites were conducted at the First Baptist Church Saturday, May 12, at 2 p.m. with the pastor, Dr. W. L. Holcomb, assisted by Rev. C. C. Martin, officiating. Burial was in Sanders Chapel Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons, Donald Martin, James Martin, Frank Martin, Kenneth Martin, Charles Martin, John Martin, Bobby Joe Martin, and a nephew, J. C. Martin. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Betty Jackson Martin, Winnfield; four sons, Cecil Martin, Calvin, Oswald Martin, Alton, and Dalton Martin, of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Barnes, Corsicana, Texas, and Mrs. Effie Dean, Minden; thirteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
