She was the second wife of Mr. E. P. Martin. To their union has been born seven sons and four daughters. They all survive her except one daughter, Mrs. Nerva (s/b Nena - Cornelia) Luther who died recently. When she became ill, the family physician was summoned at once. Under his treatment she seemed to improve until the day before her death, when she very suddenly changed for the worse. Friends and relatives did all they could to revive her and remained faithful to the last. She said during her illness that she would not recover. Her illness was borne with much patience. She joined the Missionary Baptist church when she was very young and lived a consecrated Christian life. She prayed that she may live to rear her two youngest sons, but God had need of her ere this time. As a companion she was faithful and true. Always ready and willing to bear her part of the burdens of life. Indeed her clothing was of "strength and honor". As a mother she was kind and affectionate. As all good mothers she was never weary looking after the welfare of her children. She always instructed them in the righteous ways of life. As a friend her qualities could not be excelled. She was ever ready to assist her friends in any way she could. She leaves a devoted husband, several relatives and friends to mourn her untimely death,. But, dear friends, weep not, for we know her spirit is resting in that home which God has prepared for his people. We cannot recall her but we can meet her in Heaven. A Friend Note: this is a clipping from a newspaper, but the date and name of the paper is not noted. Note: Mary Caroline Griffin Martin is buried in Couley Double Churches Cemetery.
