Martin Dies In Sanitarium Last Friday Following Operation for Appendicitis. Buried Here. J. R. Martin, age 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Martin of this city died at the Highland Sanitarium in Shreveport at 8:30 p.m. last Friday following an operation for appendicitis. His body arrived over the Rock Island Saturday at 8 p.m. and was carried to the residence of his father in law, J. L. Calhoun, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor local Presbyterian Church at four o'clock Monday afternoon, burial taking place in the Winnfield Cemetery immediately afterwards. J. R. Martin was born in Natchitoches Parish, January 10, 1904 and was 22 years, 11 months, and 7 days old at the time of his death. September 14, 1926, Mr. Martin was married to Miss Joy Calhoun, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Calhoun of this city and they resided in Mooringsport where he was connected with the Gulf Refining Co., and were he was taken ill three days prior to his death. Mr. Martin was a young man of sterling character and was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church at Waskom, Texas. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. J. R. Martin, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Martin, two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Ford and Miss Christine Martin, three brothers, Mr. Andrew Martin of Campti, Cornelius and Loyce Martin of Winnfield. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. Andrew Martin and Mr. Yancy Wallace of Campti, brother and grandfather of the deceased; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis L. Posey of Jackson, Miss., brother in law and sister of Mrs. Martin; Mr. Norman Scarborough and Mrs. Lucy D. Craighead of Mooringsport.
